Taking Part in Politics
This is a free event for people with learning disabilities, their families and carers. Come along to Withington Village Hall to find out:
  • What is democracy?
  • Why is politics important?
  • What is voting?
  • How can I vote?

At this event you can meet the Mayor of Hereford. Lunch is provided, and we will help you with getting there if you need it. Book your place by 25 September by calling 01432 260216 or e-mail diversity@herefordshire.gov.uk.

This event is supported by Herefordshire Council, Herefordshire Mencap, ECHO, and the Valuing People with Learning Disabilities Partnership Board.

World AIDS Day
In High Town, Hereford, there will be an information trailer open all day, and at 11.30am a procession to the Cathedral for a short worship of remembrance, which will be led by the Dean. From here people will be encouraged to join a march to All Saints Church where candles may be lit and an opportunity to find out more about the disease from representatives of the local health trusts and charities working with people with HIV/AIDS.

Wednesday 3 December 2008 International Day of Disabled Persons

Tuesdays, 11am-1pm, every 6 weeks

Herefordshire Service User Network
The SUN group is open to all disabled people. It is a welcoming, friendly group, run by disabled people, where people can openly discuss their views and share experiences of living in Herefordshire. Members can exchange ideas and information, and take part in consultations carried out by local organisations such as the Council or the Primary Care Trust.

Meetings are friendly and informal, and lunch is provided. If you have transport difficulties, please enquire. Mileage expenses can be claimed back. Contact Maria Cornell on 01544 387956, or e-mail dweezer@tiscali.co.uk.

Tuesday evenings (6.30-7.30pm) Tag Rugby for People with Learning Disabilities
Regular, weekly coaching sessions are held at Hereford Leisure Centre. Further details from Carol Reynolds, Rugby Inclusion Project Co-ordinator, on 07875 593 611 (e-mail ccarolreynolds@aol.com) or see the flyer at the bottom of the page.
Every Wednesday (7pm-8pm)

NJs Sports Club
A new sports club for young, active people. It is especially accessible to people with a learning disability. Lots of different sports, with specialist coaches available most weeks.
