The Diversity Group exists to ensure that the Council fulfils its statutory and other commitments in respect of diversity and equality of opportunity. It aims to promote and achieve equal opportunities for all regardless of race, religion or belief, disability, age, gender or sexual orientation, income or geographical location within the county.
The group is led and chaired by the Deputy Chief Executive, and members include officers from each Council Directorate.
The Disability Working Group exists to ensure that the Council fulfils its statutory and other commitments in respect of disabled people, including drawing up a Disability Equality Scheme. It is attended by at least one member of each Directorate, whose responsibility it is to ensure that the Council's commitments, policies, programmes and priorities are fulfilled in their field of operation. To this end, the individual members will be expected, in particular, to disseminate good practice within their Directorate.
The group is chaired by the Strategic Asset Manager.
The Race Equality Staff Group is in place to help the Council push forward its race equality work. The objectives of the group are as follows:
The Disability Staff Group works in a similar way to the Race Equality Staff Group by helping the Council push forward issues of disability equality and providing an internal consultative body.
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Staff Group works in a similar way to the other staff groups, by helping the Council address issues of equality and providing an internal consultative body.
