Herefordshire Council's First Foundation Course for Interpreters

Apply now to take part in the first Council-accredited foundation course for interpreters. The course will take place on three consecutive Saturdays: 19 and 26 September and 3 October 2009.

The course is free of charge, and people who successfully complete it will be able to take on local interpreting work for public services. Download the form by clicking here. Deadline for applications is 10 July 2009.

To find out more about using your language skills in Herefordshire, come along to an informal meeting on 3 July at the Council's Plough Lane offices in Hereford. There will be two identical sessions: 12.30-1.30pm and 5.30-6.30pm. Contact Harriet Yellin on 01432 260216 or hyellin@herefordshire.gov.uk to book your place.

Equality and Diversity

When we talk about diversity, we mean more than just race and nationality. A diverse population encompasses different religions and beliefs, ages, disabilities, gender and sexual orientation, as well as race. These are known politically as the six strands of diversity.

Herefordshire Council has both a moral and a statutory obligation to reflect the needs of a diverse population through its service provision and as an employer. We are committed to employing a diverse workforce and providing equitable services to the people of Herefordshire. Our aim is to fully meet our obligations and to learn from best practice, as we strive to improve as a local authority.

Diversity Chart Description

This chart displays the Council's approach to Diversity. The primary Council group is the Diversity Group, and the key document it works to is the Comprehensive Equality Policy. Reporting into the Diversity Group is the Race Equality Steering Group and Race Equality Staff Group. Their key document is the Race Equality Scheme. Also reporting into the Diversity Group is the Disability Working Group and Disability Staff Group. Their key document is the Disability Equality Scheme. The final group feeding into the Diversity Group is the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Staff Group.
