"Public Protection when Disaster Strikes"
Local Authority Emergency Planning Units are funded by Central Government to enable them to support the public at times of great crisis. The Civil Contingencies Act (CCA) 2004 has placed specific duties on the Council and its partner Category 1 (Local Authorities, Emergency Services, National Health Service bodies and the Environment Agency) and Category 2 Responders (providers of utilities, transport and the Health and Safety Executive)
Herefordshire Council's Emergency Planning Unit is located at Brockington, within the Corporate and Customer Services Directorate, and coordinates the Authority's response to any major disaster and the performance of it's statutory duties, as a Category 1 Responder.
Local Authority Emergency Response Plans are based on the "all-hazards approach", are fully integrated with those of other responding agencies and are capable of dealing with local and national disasters.
The Emergency Planning Unit also coordinates the emergency management training of the Authority's key officers and the County Voluntary Emergency Committee and liaises, on behalf of the Authority, with the "blue light" emergency services, the military, industry and other government departments.
Please find below an information leaflet produced by the Emergency Planning Unit.
