Sports Development

The Sports Development Team works to develop an extensive programme of Sports and Physical Activity Programmes for the people of Herefordshire.

The Team has developed several programmes to engage people of all ages in sport and physical activity and these include

Sports Referral Project
Provides and facilitates sport and physical activity as a diversionary activity for people at risk of problematic drug use and crime.

LIFT Exercise Referral Scheme
The Lifestyle Improvements for Today (LIFT) programme is Herefordshire's county-wide Exercise Referral Scheme, and provides physical activity opportunities for people whose health and well-being would benefit from a planned programme of exercise in a fun, relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Sports Specific Development
Herefordshire is part of the Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, which is supported with external funding from Sport England, the Lottery and other sources. The Sports Development Team is involved in partnership work with Local and Regional Sports Clubs, National Governing Bodies (NGB's), Coaches and Volunteers and other external agencies, all working together to increase participation in Sport and Physical Activity.

Physical Activity Programmes
Herefordshire has a number of specialist Physical Activity programmes to encourage members of the community to meet the recommendation of participating in 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on at least 3 days of the week to benefit health and well-being.

Education - Sport & Physical Education
A number of programmes are now running through the Education Directorate which seek to widen opportunities, develop links and provide training.
