Museums and Galleries Events
  • Led by Judy Stevenson - Senior Collections and Access Officer. An introduction to ancient metalworking. This workshop provides an overview of metalworking practices in antiquity using the museum collections.
  • Led by Catherine Willson - Collections Officer (Fine and Decorative Art). Housed in a state of the art store, the collections are accessible for the first time. Discover the artistic treasures held by the museum and see the work of Herefordshire artist Brian Hatton.
  • Imagine life in the Ledbury area 420 million years ago- make an underwater fossil sea scene and decorate a trilobite mask. Children must be accompanied.
  • Make a volcano to ‘fire up’ at home. Enjoy a host of family-friendly activities with the rock and fossil roadshow. Space available to eat a packed lunch. Nearest parking at the Military Club in Friars Street.
  • Make a Devonian delta scene with ancient fish and simple plants from 400 million years ago. Decorate a fish mask.
  • Come along to the Old House and take a step back in time to the early 17th century. With costumed characters, musical entertainment and a real chance to experience the past.
  • A day of Celtic fun and learning. Dig up a pretend chariot burial, plan archaeological layers, go behind the scenes at the museum and explore real Celtic artefacts. Create Celtic art. Have your face painted as a Celt and take part in Celtic warrior races, as Queen Boudicca or King Caratacus. Certificates issued to all budding archaeologists. Refreshments on site, space to eat packed lunches. Suggested time for visit is 2 hours. Parking in nearby car parks at Greyfriars car park, off Barton Road and The Military Club car park on Friars street.

Reg Boulton - A Retrospective

Time: Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00 - 17:00; and from April onwards also Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays 10:00 - 16:00
Venue: Art Gallery - Hereford Museum

A retrospective exhibition of painting, printsmaking and stone letter cutting by this prolific artist who has lived and taught in Hereford for over thirty years.

Glyn Griffiths (1926 - 1999) 

Dates: 23 February - 11 April 2010
Time: Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00 - 17:00;
Venue: Hereford Museum & Art Gallery - Stairwell

Paintings, prints and drawings by this artist who taught at Hereford College of Art and Design from 1987 until the mid-1990s.  Born in Treorci in the Rhondda Valley and a teacher of art for most of his life, Glyn's main preoccupation was with the rural and urban landscape and working in a wide range of materials.  His paintings are represented in many public and private collections including the National Museum of Wales and Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
