How are our toys different to those in the past?
Links to the Literacy Strategy Reception, Yr1 and Yr2
Word level work:word awareness and vocabulary to describe old and
new.
An exploration of old and new toys. This session is a practical,
hands-on session and children will play with a Victorian jumping
monkey toy, handle a pretty Edwardian lady doll and have fun with a
host of lovely toys from the museum's collections.
Children will :
- Have fun comparing old and new versions of the same toys
and the materials used to make them
- Learn words to describe old and new toys
- Explore why girls and boys had different sorts of toys in
the past
- Play with replica toys such as a falling ladder man and
pecking hens and learn about hand-made toys
