Family Numeracy Course

Heritage Learning are currently hosting a Family Numeracy Course at our new Museum Resource and Learning Centre

Mums, Dads and Carers from Lord Scudamore School come with their children to develop their numeracy skills with experts Margaret Challenger, a Family Learning Tutor and Corrine Benjamin, a teacher from Lord Scudamore School.

The theme for the first half of the term has been 'bugs' and there are plenty of those lurking playfully in our natural history collections. Trays of butterflies and beetles were brought out for families to look and marvel at and little ones dressed up as a bee, spider and a ladybird as well as playing with a bee garden from the museum's handling collection. Margaret and Corrine promote learning through fun and inspiring activities to develop numeracy skills and confidence for both adults and their children. How many wings has a butterfly got? What colours are the butterflies? How many legs has a beetle got? How many antenna has a bee got? Which insect is the longest? Which is the shortest?

The Heritage Learning Team are delighted to be working in partnership with the Family Learning team to make our museum collections and resources accessible to families. The Family Learning Team are also very pleased with this partnership work. Families are really enjoying accessing a new environment, using the resources and taking part in a wide variety of fun activities.
