Museums and galleries
Herefordshire Heritage Services operates five sites across the county and Museum on the Move, a mobile museum, we also support the independent museums in the county through our Museum Development Officer scheme. Three of our sites are in the county town of Hereford - these are Hereford Museum and Art Gallery, the Old House and the new Museum Resource and Learning Centre (opened in 2008), our two heritage centres are the Market House Heritage Centre in Ross on Wye and Ledbury Heritage Centre. We are also in the process of developing a heritage display for the Master's House in Ledbury. With the exception of the mobile museum, admission to museums, galleries and heritage centres is free of charge, charges apply for some events and special services.
The county museum collections of some 100,000 items are now all housed at the Museum Resource & Learning Centre, this building also acts as the service headquarters. Our staff and services are divided into three main areas of work - Visitor Services, delivering the service to the public, Collections and Access, curating and caring for the collections and providing access to them and Learning, providing learning opportunities.
