Herefordshire Libraries have joined forces with the local Seed Swap group to encourage gardeners to share their seeds this spring. The Seed Swap group will be holding their annual swap event on Saturday 18th February 10am – 2pm at the Methodist hall in St Owen Street, Hereford. There is no entry charge and there will be stalls, talks, tool sharpening and light refreshments.
The seeds left over from this swap event will be used to seed the swaps at all of the eleven Herefordshire public libraries. The Libraries will be having seed swaps from 20 February - 5 March. If you have any left over packets of seeds, or if you have collected seeds from your own garden, please bring them along to swap with other library users.
The libraries will have a box where you can leave your seeds and where you can choose seeds to take home. Seed swapping helps make gardening more affordable for everyone. More and more people are enjoying growing their own food nothing tastes better then freshly picked vegetables, and there is no better way to reduce your carbon footprint than growing food close to home.
While you are in the library check out the gardening books, there is a big selection to choose from. If you want to grow vegetables why not borrow Grow Something to Eat Everyday by Jo Whittingham or the RHS Growing Vegetables and Herbs by Guy Barter. If you love to grow flowers try Gardeners World Flowers by Toby Buckland or RHS Grow your Own Flowers by Helen Yemm.
Using the library is not only good for your pocket, it is good for the planet too.
