Bookstart

Bookstart logo Bookstart is the national programme that encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with children from as early an age as possible by giving them free books. Children can receive packs at 9 months and 3-4 years. Packs are now available at your local library too.

Where do I get a pack from?

At 9 months - from your health visitor at baby check up, or ask at your local library.
At 3-4 years - from your child's nursery or playgroup setting, or ask at your local library.

What is in each pack?

Bookstart baby pack contains - Two board books, a nursery rhyme placemat, information to help develop your child's language skills and information about the library, all in a canvas bag.

Treasure Chest pack contains - Two picture books, bookplate stickers, colouring book with colouring pencils and a sharpener, guidance information about language skills development and library information, all in a Treasure Chest box, which even has a secret compartment!

Do I need anything to get a pack?

Yes, your child's red health check book.
