Talking books

Talking books bring the pleasure of reading to people with sight problems, dyslexia or physical disabilities. They are also enjoyed by many able-bodied readers. We have a great range of talking books for adults and children in our libraries. The titles you see on the shelves are just a small selection of the titles available, so check our catalogue if you don't see what you want, or ask our staff to do it for you.

As with ordinary books, you can borrow talking books for up to three weeks at a time. There is usually a small hire charge of £2 for talking books, but there is no charge for anyone who is unable to read printed books.

Customers who have difficulty reading ordinary print may also like to try one of the many titles available in large print. Any talking book or large print title on the library catalogue can be requested free of charge and delivered to a Herefordshire library or mobile library for you to collect.

If you or someone you know has a sight problem the RNIB may be able to help with advice. National newspapers and magazines can supply newspapers and magazines in various formats for visually impaired and print disabled people who find reading print a strain. And if we don't have the title you want, more talking books are available from the Calibre audio library.
