Schools library service

A specialist, cost effective way of making sure that schools in Herefordshire have access to current reference materials to help resource the national curriculum and other educational developments.

Schools library service visits

The schools mobile library visits each primary school and special needs school once a term. Each teacher can take out fifty books, with videos, story tapes and Big Books also available for borrowing.

Project collections

Each teacher is entitled to three project loans of 20 books per term. They are issued for one term and can include videos and Big Books when available. We appreciate 4 weeks notice during busy periods. Books are usually selected by library staff but teachers can select their own titles should they wish to. Please call or email us to arrange an appointment.

Big books, videos tapes and story cassettes

These are available for selection on the Schools Mobile Library and in the Library Service premises at the Shirehall in Hereford. The number that can be borrowed is limited only by availability.

Other services

Special needs are catered for with large print titles available, collections for more able pupils and nursery age children. Talks by a chartered librarian to children, parents, staff or governors can be arranged. Story telling sessions are also available, either in school or at the nearest public library. Professional advice is available on all aspects of school libraries and books including: help designing and planning a new school library, help where teachers are planning a course of study skills, help with reclassifying libraries, exhibitions and talks about books.
