Echo's Aims and Priorities
ECHO (About Face Theatre Company) is Herefordshire's only theatre company for actors with learning disabilities. As such, it sets out to challenge preconceptions about what theatre created by people with learning disabilities can be. In marketing the company, we do not hide the fact that the actors all have learning disabilities, but we emphasise the exciting, theatrical nature of their work.About Face Theatre Company's Aims:
- To provide an opportunity for people with learning disabilities to explore theatre as a means of communication, expression and development
- To actively seek opportunities to involve the wider community in performance and workshops
- To work to professional standards to extend the all round potential of individuals who are currently perceived as having lesser abilities
- To provide a voice for personal and social issues affecting people with disabilities
- To change people's attitudes and expectations of learning disabled adults
