Off-Site Holdings

Please note that some collections are now held offsite and need to be requested in advance.

Please check the list in the Resources box on the right (Off-site Holdings list) to see if this includes a collection that you wish to consult.

Remember that you will need to check the full catalogue for each collection for details of individual items.

Documents required that are now stored offsite need to be ordered in the usual way (by completing document request slip(s) in the searchroom).  Slip(s) given to the staff by 4.45pm of one day will be retrieved in the morning of the following day, and will be available for consultation from 1pm that day (with the exception of slips handed in on a Friday or Saturday - documents will be retrieved on Monday, but only available for consultation from 9.15am Tuesday).

Documents required for Saturday consultation must be ordered by Thursday 4.45pm so they can be retrieved on Friday.  As the searchroom is staffed with minimum staffing on a Saturday there will be no offsite retrievals that day.

Items can be ordered up to two weeks in advance to ensure availability from 9.15am on a certain day.  Items not consulted within 48 hours of retrieval will be returned to the offsite storage and will need to be re-requested if they are still required.

Items from the offsite holdings will be held in the Record Office for as long as they are needed by the researcher.  Please ensure you make it clear to searchroom staff, when you return an item to them, if you will need the item again or if you have finished with it and it is to be returned to storage.
