Herefordshire History and Archives Forum

Herefordshire's history is recorded and celebrated by a large number of local societies across the county. These dedicated groups of enthusiasts make an invaluable contribution to our understanding of the past.

The variety and quality of activities undertaken by the local history groups is truly impressive. They range from oral history projects and archaeological surveys to exhibitions and glossy publications. Some groups are highly developed with hundreds of members and their own research premises. Others work on a smaller scale, focusing on defined studies such as house histories.

The Herefordshire History and Archive Forum is led by Herefordshire Archive Service. It provides a setting for all groups to come together and learn from each other's experiences. It also allows the Archive Service to support the groups by arranging training, providing conservation advice and supplies to those who hold archives and helping with processes such as recruitment.

A network of local history groups has been identified and their contact details, where appropriate, are given in the 'Directory' section. Please see the link to the left of this page. We are aware that there are likely to be other local history societies that we have not included. Please let us know if you would like to join the Forum, which is free of charge, and have your group's details added to the directory.
