Groups are welcome to arrange a visit to the Record Office outside opening hours, encompassing a tour of the strong rooms (view at first hand the 2 miles of shelving!), and/or conservation and a display of selected archives, related to your local area or topics of your choice.
Please contact the Information Services Manager, to discuss dates and your groups' requirements. You will see a link to our contact details on the right.
Members of the Archive Service staff can come to your venue and talk about various aspects of their work. We make no charge for talks but welcome donations.
Topics include family history; house history; the work of a conservator; the census; the work of the Record Office; record office holdings (based on the area in which the group is located); looking after your records; palaeography (reading old handwriting) and more.
If you have a topic or area that you'd like to hear us talk about - please ask - and we'll do what we can!
Please note that staff can often be booked up for talks some time in advance. We advise you to ask as early as possible!
N.B. For talks to schools please see the link to our Educational Resources page.
