People Count
Using the tithe and ordnance survey maps as well as census returns 1841-1901 for their parish or locality, children will explore why the census was taken and how, and the problems that occurred - both for the administrators and the householders. Then children will write diary accounts of a census enumerator, be a family trying to fill in the form, interview prospective enumerators, look at statistics from the census returns and fill in census forms for their own family or class.
