Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000
In the discharge of its statutory duties, the Council is sometimes
required to investigate allegations of unlawful activity. Such
investigations may require discreet surveillance or similar
evidence gathering techniques. As a public authority, the
Council is obliged to respect the provisions of the Human Rights
Act and the European Convention on Human Rights. The
Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 defines how the Council
undertakes its investigations in a manner which is consistent with
the Convention Rights. The Council's policy relating to its
investigatory activities is reproduced below.
