The Role of Private Sector Landlords

The Herefordshire Council recognises the valuable role that the private rented sector plays in helping to meet housing need within the whole of the County. We are keen to work in partnership with private landlords and agents to promote good practice and encourage the provision of sustainable, good quality accommodation.

Private Sector Landlord's Event

In order to support local landlords, the Council organises landlord's events to discuss issues relating to private renting, to share information and to enable landlords to network with others in the same field. The event is directed towards:

• private landlord renting out one or more properties in the district
• professional landlord or letting agent
• individuals considering renting out a property you own, (whether currently occupied or not)

The Aims:

• to promote and improve the quality of accommodation within the private rented sector
• to promote effective consultation with the private rented sector
• to enable private landlords and agents to voice their opinions on private rented housing issues in the district
• to provide landlords with access to advice and information; for example new legislation/safety issues/housing improvement grants
• to enable private landlords and agents to network by sharing their knowledge and experiences

Council officers from the Housing Team and housing benefits are available to answer queries and to provide information, as well as representatives from a number of other organisations relating to private landlords. There are presentations, as well as a variety of information stands. Admission to the event is free and refreshments are available.

The Council currently facilitates a Landlords Focus Group, the aim of which is to ensure that Private Sector landlords, Agents and other individuals involved in the sector, have an active involvement to influence the services within the sector.
