Message from Councillor Phil Edwards, Cabinet Member for the Environment
I have great pleasure in presenting this information pack about the Development Control Service. There is already a lot of valuable contact and consultation between the Service and local Councils and I hope this pack will go some way towards explaining how decisions are made on planning applications and how your Council can best contribute.
The pack is in loose leaf format so we can easily update it. At present the information only covers Development Control. Depending on your feedback on this approach we will put together similar packs for the Building Control, Conservation and Forward Planning services.
I should like to acknowledge the help of the members of Bosbury and Coddington Parish Council and Herefordshire Association of Local Councils in commenting on the draft. I often hear Councillors say that ‘Planners’ don't listen to our comments. Whilst I cannot promise that planning decisions will always go the way your Council would like, I hope that this Pack will help you understand the process and explain who to contact if you have issues to raise.
Development Control is one of the most frequent and possibly controversial services that Town and Parish Councils get involved in. This pack has been produced to provide information about how the planning process works and help Town and Parish Councils to make an effective contribution. The Environment Directorate is committed to meeting the Ambitions set out in the Herefordshire Plan. We hope the pack will encourage participation and help your community shape the future of Herefordshire.
