Edgar Street Grid (ESG) Design Framework Supplementary Planning Document

The ESG area comprises some 43 hectares of land lying north and adjacent to the city centre. Its redevelopment is set out within policies of the UDP.

The Design Framework SPD aims to:

  • Establish an urban design framework for the grid in a positive and enabling manner providing a design concept early on in the process which will be used to guide landowners, developers and the community on the form development proposals should take
  • Address and supplement with additional information, policies contained within the UDP
  • Provide greater certainty on what is expected from future schemes
  • Ensure delivery of a comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development

The SPD is accompanied by a consultation statement which details how and when interested parties have been involved in the preparation and adoption of the document. A sustainability appraisal report has also been prepared which tests the performance of the SPD against a series of environmental, social and economic objectives.

The Design Framework SPD, the consultation statement and the sustainability appraisal are available in the Resources box below.

The SPD was adopted by the Council on 29th November 2007 and will be a material consideration in the determination of planning applications with the ESG area.
