What Happens To An Application When Submitted?

Once an application is registered as valid, it then is allocated a unique reference number that should be quoted in all future correspondence.

A statutory eight-week deadline date is generated; this date indicates when the council should have a decision made by. The applicant (or appointed agent) has the right to appeal if this 8-week deadline is not met, unless the Council and applicant have agreed an extension of time.

The Council will carry out statutory publicity and depending upon the nature of the application may advertise within a local newspaper, by a site notice or by neighbour notification (or any combination).

Various statutory consultees will also be notified of your application including the Parish/Town Council. The Planning Officer will carry out a site inspection and this may result in negotiations if appropriate to amend the scheme to make it more acceptable in terms of compliance with the Development Plan (this may be unnecessary if pre-application advice has been sought and followed).

Depending on the nature of your application and whether any objections have been received in response to publicity your application may be determined under "Delegated Powers" rather than needing to go to one of the Area Planning Sub-Committees for decision. This will obviously speed up the determination of your application. Your local Councillor can request an application go to an Area Sub-Committee for decision in certain circumstances.
