Forward Planning

This section is responsible for the formulation and implementation of the Council's land use planning policies. These are set out in a number of planning documents which can be accessed using the menu on the left.

The Council's adopted planning policies are set out in the Unitary Development Plan (UDP) which was adopted on 23rd March 2007.

The UDP provides the basis for the Council's actions as local planning authority up to 2011, determining policy on such matters as the distribution of housing and employment and the conservation of the environment.

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 introduced a new planning system - the Local Development Framework. Work has started on the Local Development Framework for Herefordshire. There are transitional arrangements which provide for the UDP to operate as part of the County's Local Development Framework whilst the new system is put in place.
