Social Services are funded by the Government and through Council tax, but the Government also expects us to recover some of the costs by charging for services. They tell us how to do this, but they have set a limit on how much we can charge. This will always be less than it costs us to give you the service. Some people will not need to pay anything - we will ask you for details of your finances to make this judgement.
We don't charge for everything we do. If you are asked to pay for services you get, this will follow a financial assessment and you will only be asked to pay one charge, regardless of how many services you are getting from us.
Service Charges April 2008 - April 2009
Our rates are:
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Home Care | £13.90 per hour |
| Day Care | £4.10 per day |
| Meals | £2.60 per meal |
| Meals (WRVS "Meals on Wheels" | £2.60 per meal |
| Transport | £1.30 for each journey (£2.60 return) |
The capital limit fixed by the Government is £22,250.
If you have more than this in savings and capital, then you will pay the full rate shown above.
Our booklet, "Paying for services" explains that you may be asked to pay towards a service arranged by us.
How much you are charged depends on your financial situation. Some people will not pay anything.
A financial assessment will be carried out so that we can calculate how much you should pay, and advice on any benefits you may be entitled to will be given to you at the same time.
Our Charging Team will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Their telephone number is in the booklet.
