Blue Badge Scheme

Introduction

The Blue Badge scheme is designed to promote mobility and inclusion for the most severely disabled individuals, both on the UK and the wider European Union.

Who Can Apply For Disabled Badges?

There are some people who automatically qualify for a badge without further assessment. These applicants must meet one of the following categories:

  • Registered blind
  • Receive the higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance except where the award is for a period of less than 12 months
  • Receive a war pensioner's mobility supplement

There are some people who may qualify for a badge. These applicants must meet one of the following categories and attend an assessment.

  • Drives a vehicle regularly, have a severe congenital disability in both arms, and are unable to operate, or have considerable difficulty in operating, all or some types of parking meter
  • Is a child under the age of two suffering a medical condition requiring bulky medical equipment or immediate access to a vehicle for treatment
  • Is unable to walk or has considerable difficulty walking due to a permanent and substantial disability.

How To Apply For A Disabled Badge

If you think that you would qualify for a Blue Badge, then you can call into your local Info in Herefordshire centre. The Customer Services team there will be able to issue forms, give you advice and assess your application. Alternatively, you can either ring for an application form to be sent via post or download the application form and guidance notes from the Resource Box below and send the completed form to the Info Centre most convenient to you.

You will need:

  • Two passport sized photographs signed on the back.
  • One proof of your address
  • Two proofs of your identity
  • £2.00 (Admin Charge - Non refundable).
  • Proof of your automatic eligibility
  • Any supporting evidence that would assist the assessment for non automatic applications.
