Working in partnership for the people of Herefordshire

Young carer

There are a large number of young people in Herefordshire who look after a member of their family, or a friend, with either a disability or long term illness.

You are not alone and there is support available to help you.

Herefordshire Young Adult Carers (YAC) can offer help to 16-25 year olds. Services include:

  • Signposting to other agencies
  • offering help and support with college/ university
  • training and employment
  • housing and other benefits
  • access to counselling

As well as the help above, it also gives young adult carers the opportunity to meet each other in a social environment.

HYAC has also formed a club and organises guest speakers on a variety of topics including supported housing, sex education as well as holding musical events.

At Hereford Sixth Form college there is a drop in centre, every Tuesday from 1.05pm to 2.05pm in the Well Being Centre.

HYAC meets fortnightly on a Tuesday from 6.30pm to 9.00pm at Centre 18, Symonds Street, Hereford.  It is a small friendly group which offers advice and support and is somewhere to meet new friends in similar circumstances.
