Planning & Networking Meeting

If you are thinking of taking part this year, come to our 'planning and networking meeting' on Wednesday 24th February, 6pm - 7.30pm at The Courtyard Centre for the Arts in Hereford. The meeting is particularly useful if you are new to h.Art and is also a great way of meeting up with other artists, letting us all know about any plans or ideas you may have, searching for other artists or a venue to share or simply having your say!  Please email h.Art Co-ordinator to let us know you will be attending.

Click here to download the January Newsletter. This is currently being mailed to past h.Art Members.

Please make sure you are signed up to Artery to get email news straight to your inbox. This is an automated service, is FREE if you live in Herefordshire and means you can be sure of never missing out on the latest arts news and creative opportunities from both Herefordshire and further afield.

Eligibility – Artists

o You and any other artists showing at your venue must be h.Art Members.
o Your studio / exhibition must be located within the county of Herefordshire.  We can accept a small number of venues located a short distance outside the county boundary. This is decided on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Amanda to discuss.

o Your studio / exhibition must offer free admission to visitors.
o Your studio / exhibition must be covered by Public Liability insurance.

Eligibility – Galleries

o To qualify for the h.Art Gallery Rate your venue must open to the public for a minimum of 12 weeks p.a and sell work by a number of artists on a commercial basis.
o Galleries must fulfil all the criteria listed above for Artists, but are exempt from the membership requirement.

How to Register

o Registration for h.Art 2010 is online.  We have been working on the system over the winter to make it a smoother process.  Registration opens on 24th February here!  Return to this page and click on the Register Now button.
o It is a two-stage process. You need to sign up as a Member and pay that fee. Once this is processed by us, you can go on to complete the Event form.
o Payment, this year, is by telephone only. We are using an existing Council telephone payment line which offers a simple, easy, accessible service. Details are provided in the Payment section on the form.
o To take advantage of the Early Bird price, you need to complete both stages and payments by 31st March.  You may be able to register in April, at the higher Standard price, depending on available places in the event.
o We will distribute a Frequently Asked Questions information sheet at the meeting on 24th Feb which will also be available online. This lists all the information you need to collect before you start plus image requirements.

o If you are unable to register online, you may be able to complete a paper version of the forms. This service is only available until 31st March and incurs an additional administration charge of £15.  Please phone Amanda during office hours to arrange.

h.Art Young Artist Bursary

If you are aged under 30 on 11th September 2010 contact h.Art Co-ordinator for details of this scheme.  Deadline for applications will be around 22 March (tbc).

Public Liability Insurance

To participate in h.Art you must have Public Liability insurance. Your household policy may cover you; alternatively, if you subscribe to a-n (Artists Newsletter), your subscription package includes PL cover.

The Herefordshire Open

The h.Art Open Exhibition  is to be renamed The Herefordshire Open.  This showcase for the best new art being created in Herefordshire is open to all artists in the county, whether or not you are also opening your studio as part of h.Art and we hope that the name change will help to emphasise this.  It is defined as a ‘fine art’ exhibition, but there are no limits to the field or medium of the work which may be contemporary or traditional.  Photography, installation and new media work, including video, as well as sculpture and painting are welcomed. We are currently reviewing the submission process for 2010 and will publish details as soon as possible.  Submissions are not needed until at least June 2010, possibly later. The Herefordshire Open is held at Hereford Museum & Art Gallery, Broad Street, Hereford.

The 2010 Herefordshire Open opens to the public on 11th September, with a Private View on Friday 10th. Further information will be available soon.

Contact Us

Your first point of contact is Amanda Fitzwilliams, h.Art Co-ordinator. I am a freelancer, employed by Herefordshire Council to co-ordinate h.Art.  I principally work from home where my office hours are Monday - Thursday, 9.30am - 3pm.  I often respond to emails at other times but would ask that you refrain from telephoning me outside of these hours. I log on to a Council computer from time to time to edit the h.Art Website etc and can only access emails sent to my council address then.  It would be helpful if you could copy your emails to both my addresses.
