Five Get Creative in Ledbury

Five professional craftsmen from Worcestershire and Herefordshire have joined forces to stage an alternative Christmas Gift show, where everything has been designed and made locally.

Keen to encourage people to support their local businesses and keep their money within the local economy, the five (all members of the Worcestershire Guild of Designer Craftsmen) are offering genuinely creative solutions to the dreaded Christmas present list. "People are already aware that it pays to buy local when it comes to their fresh food, but few think of where their non-edible purchases come from". "Wouldn't it be wonderful if, as well as the food on your table, all the presents under your tree came from local producers this Christmas?" says Sarah Walker, the contemporary lampshade maker from Malvern.

Marie-Therese King from Eek Batik in Bransford will be showing vibrant and fun batik works inspired by children's drawings, many reproduced as Limited Edition giclee prints. Sarah Walker from Malvern will be offering colourful stitched and cut artworks alongside her unusual lamps and lampshades. Basket maker Jenny Pearce from Canon Frome will be displaying a large selection of baskets, bags, tables and chairs crafted from willow. Cynthia Lea from Leigh, best known for her life-like ceramic chicken sculptures, will be showcasing a range of pig plaques, while Jocelyn Perry from Bewdley will be exhibiting her intricately woven beadwork jewellery.

Prices range from £3 for a handmade card to £400 for an original batik.
Creative Christmas Gifts in Ledbury will be held at the Weavers Gallery in Church Lane, from 9 - 14 December 2008. It will be open daily from 10.30am until 5.30pm.
