Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

I own a local business and wish to place tables and chairs out on the highway for refreshment purposes. Do I need a licence?

Answer:

Yes - you need a Highways Amenity Licence from Herefordshire Council. These licences are issued by the Street Trading Panel of senior council officers.

Obviously, not everywhere is suitable for a pavement café type operation so Health and Safety Issues are of paramount importance.

There are strict conditions on what is required and what is deemed acceptable. Visual appearance, safety enclosures and high quality furniture are all pre-requisites.

Information guidelines and application forms for downloading can be obtained by visiting our Street Furniture web page.
