Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

How do I report mud on a road?

Answer:

Mud and other dirt from vehicles and animals on a road is a potential hazard, and can be the cause of accidents.

Depositing mud on a road is an offence under the Highways Act. It is the legal responsibility of the farmer to ensure that every precaution is taken to avoid any mud being carried off the field. For further information and guidance visit the NFU website

To report mud on a road please contact us at streets@herefordshire.gov.uk or telephone 01432 261800.

If we consider the mud to be a potential hazard, we will contact the farmer or landowner responsible and ask for the mud to be removed. If it is not removed within a reasonable time, then we may arrange for the work to be done and charge the person responsible.
