Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

Can members of the public attend Planning Committee meetings and are they allowed to speak?

Answer:

There is a main Planning Committee which is supported by three Area Planning Sub Committees (Northern, Central and Southern) which deal with the majority of planning applications. Each Councillor for the area sits on the relevant Planning Area Sub-Committee. All meetings are open to the public.

Applicants and anyone who has made representations about a planning application are given the opportunity to speak when the application is heard at a Planning Committee or Area Planning  Sub Committee meeting.

They have to register to speak at least 48 hours before the meeting and are allowed to speak for three minutes. The number of speakers who can speak on an individual application is limited to one in support of the application, one against and one on behalf of the Parish Council.
