Question:

Can members of the public attend planning committee meetings and are they allowed to speak?

Answer:

The planning committee operates on a three-weekly cycle, all meetings are open to the public.

Providing applicants, parish councils and members of the public who have made representations meet certain conditions; they can speak when the application is heard at the planning committee.

They have to register to speak at least 48 hours before the meeting and are allowed to speak for three minutes. In cases where more than one person wishes to speak in either objection or support of an application then the time can either be split or a spokesperson may be nominated.
