Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

I have heard a lot about benefit fraud - what happens if I know something about a case?

Answer:

In basic terms benefit fraud is costing the UK taxpayer millions of pounds each year, added to which it reduces the amount the Government may be able to spend on benefits in the future. Therefore, it is in the interests of everyone to do what they can to help reduce the problem.

Benefit fraud takes many forms, such as working and claiming, non-disclosure of income and savings, living with partners, inflation of rents etc.

If you have any information about a possible fraud, please contact the Fraud Team using any of the contact methods on the Help us stop benefit fraud page so that they can decide what to do next.
