Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

What is the difference between Council Tax and Business Rates?

Answer:

Council Tax is the main source of local taxation to local authorities. It is levied on household property within its area and National Non-domestic Rates (NNDR).

NNDR or Business Rates is a levy on businesses, based on a national rate set by Central Government.

NNDR is collected by billing authorities on behalf of Central Government, pooled nationally and then redistributed among local authorities on the basis of population.
