Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

Does Herefordshire Council ever make savings to reduce Council Tax?

Answer:

Yes, some £8.5 million savings have been made since the Council came into being.

The Council continues to look for economies and efficiency savings and undertakes regular ‘Best Value’ reviews of its services. However, invariably you get what you pay for.

Herefordshire Council’s low level of spending is not, necessarily, good news because it makes it difficult to develop and improve the quality of services without passing additional costs onto the Council Taxpayer.

The budget seeks to strike the right balance between the impact on Council Taxpayers and the delivery of front-line services to the public and is the subject of considerable on-going deliberation by elected members.
