Why is the council tax so high - the only service I get is my bin emptied once a week?

Answer:

The amount of council tax payable is based on the banding of the property and is not linked to the level of services a person actually receives. 

Council tax is collected by the local authority but is used to pay for a wide range of services including those provided by Herefordshire Council, West Mercia Police Authority, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, and the Parish Councils.

The majority of funds collected by the Council is used to pay for schools and provide adult social care particularly for the elderly.
