Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

Why did I see a Ranger shooting a deer that has been in a road traffic accident at the roadside rather than taking it to the vets?

Answer:

A deer may be severely injured following a collision with a car even if there is no sign of blood. Often they will have broken backbones or damage to internal organs. It is important to remember that they are wild animals and are fearful of human contact.
The Senior Ranger works closely with the Deer Initiative and is often called out to assess the situation and humanely destroy the deer before it endures any further stress or suffering.
