Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

Why are trees being felled at Queenswood and other countryside sites we visit?

Answer:

All woodlands owned by the Countryside Service are managed under the Woodland Grant Scheme, which is a plan of operations to be undertaken in the wood that has been agreed by the Forestry Commission.  Where land is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), such as the hillside woodlands at Queenswood Country Park agreement for tree management must also be sought from English Nature.  Appropriate tree work such as thinning and coppicing is essential for the ecology of a woodland.
