Local authorities and primary care trusts (PCTs) have a statutory duty to produce a 'joint strategic needs assessment' (JSNA) of the health and well-being of their local community. Herefordshire's JSNA examines health and social care needs as well as the other main things that affect people’s life-chances, quality of life and health and well-being. Its aim is to help the council, PCT and partners identify what their priorities should be - to inform future plans and ensure money and services are targeted where they are needed most.
The Herefordshire JSNA reflects the unique integration and partnership working that exists within Herefordshire. It contains analysis undertaken specifically for the JSNA, complemented by a range of other analyses undertaken across the Herefordshire Partnership, including the views of patients and the public. We are presenting the summary findings in document form; the analyses themselves are brought together in these pages but are integrated within the unique information resource of the Herefordshire Partnership ‘facts and figures’ website.
This JSNA is a 'live' resource which will be added to throughout the year as new information and analysis becomes available - see the box on the right-had side for updates. However, please note that the summary of the JSNA (Key Points and Recommendations document) will continue to be produced once a year.

The Director of Public Health Summary Annual Report for 2010 was published in July 2011, and is available below. Previous reports are published on the NHS Herefordshire website. The annual report is the opportunity for the Director of Public Health (DPH) to share their views on health inequalities with both health professionals and the wider community. In Herefordshire, the DPH is a joint appointment between NHS Herefordshire and Herefordshire Council. To this end, the annual report is in future to be aligned with corporate planning cycles for both organisations, and this summary report for 2010 is an interim measure before the 2011 report is published later in the year.
