Early years development

Key point (updated since 2011 Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and State of Herefordshire report Key Findings):

Herefordshire has seen a large improvement in the percentage of children achieving a good level of development against the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) compared with previous years.

This data looks at development of children at the age of 5 years as measured by the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile.  Specifically monitoring the percentage of children achieving a good level of development (This measure defines children achieving 78 points or more across a range of disciplines (scales) and at least 6 in each of the scales associated with the Personal, Social and Emotional and Communication, Language and Literacy areas of learning).

In 2011, 56% of children in Herefordshire were achieving a good level of development, a large improvement on 45% in 2010 and 46% in 2009.

This is still marginally below national rates which show 59% of children achieving this good level of development across England.
