The Census provides household tenure information for different locations, as shown in table 1.

Herefordshire has a higher proportion of households that own their house outright compared with regionally and nationally. Herefordshire also has a lower proportion of households that own their house with a mortgage and a slightly higher proportion that privately rent their house from a landlord or letting agency.

In Herefordshire the proportion of households who own their property outright is much higher in rural dispersed areas (45%) than in urban areas (30%) whereas the opposite is true for households that own their house with a mortgage or loan (37% in urban areas compared with 30% in rural dispersed areas).
Higher proportions of households that live in socially rented housing are found in urban areas (20%) and rural towns (19%). The proportion of households that rent privately from a landlord or letting agency is highest in rural dispersed locations (14%).
