Street care and cleaning

photo of Partnership working with 'Noise' - A local Community Group, The Community Safety Partnership and The South Wye Regeneration Partnership. The Highways and Transportation Section manages and monitors the Council's street cleansing contract covering the whole county, this includes the cleansing/de-littering of all urban streets, main highways, rural roads, public car parks and the servicing of litter bins within the market towns and Hereford City.

The Service

The Street Cleansing Service is responsible for:

  • Keeping streets and certain designated public areas e.g. Car Parks free from litter by cleaning on a regular basis.
  • Cleansing of central and principal shopping streets at least once a day.
  • The servicing of litter bins in Hereford city and the market towns.
  • Collection/Disposal of Fly-Tipped waste.

The Partnership

Projects have been set up with community groups and businesses with further initiatives being developed to promote community action, litter awareness and waste minimization issues. Local community involvement is welcomed. Herefordshire Council assists schools and other voluntary groups with their clean up campaigns by providing litter picking equipment, gloves and black bags as well as clearance of all rubbish collected.

Your Contribution

Occasionally, we may seek your co-operation in keeping a street or part of a street free of parked cars so that effective cleaning can be carried out. We will inform you when we need to do this.

If you are aware of a litter problem please let us know using the litter line on 01432 261800. Herefordshire Council is committed to providing a cleaner, litter free environment. Please help us to make the county one of which we can be proud.
