Ross-on-Wye recycling
When the Council's 'Kerbside' recycling scheme began in 2003 it was impossible to include Ross-on-Wye. Now, in an attempt to 'fill that gap', a new scheme has been devised for this area,
'Re-Box'.
'Re-Box' ('R
e =
Reduce,
Reuse,
Recycle) changes the blue bag paper collection scheme that has been run by the Charity EnviroAbility for some years, into a blue box scheme increasing the types of recyclables collected to include paper, textiles, glass bottles, jars and cans.
'Re-Box' will begin with some 4,500 households in Ross-on-Wye town and then in the summer expand to another 3,000 households in the surrounding areas. For most people on the scheme the blue
'Re-Box' will be emptied on the same day as the refuse collection.
'Re-Box' is a new joint venture (a social enterprise), the first of its kind in the country, between the charity EnviroAbility, the recycling company WCR Ltd from Evesham and the Herefordshire Council. The operatives running the scheme are adults with learning disabilities from in and around Ross-on-Wye - people who in the past were dismissed as non-productive and un-employable. The
'Re-Box' project rejects this notion and works on the principal that
everyone and everything has a value.
