Your household refuse and recycling service

Herefordshire Council provides an easy and convenient way to dispose of your household refuse and recycling.

The benefits of our service are:-

  • We collect your refuse on a weekly basis
  • We make recycling easier by collecting recyclable items mixed together in one container
  • We can collect a wide range of recyclable materials including glass bottles and jars
  • We will provide a recycling service to every property in the county by 2010

How the service works:-

  • Weekly collection of household refuse using black sacks
  • Twice yearly delivery of 26 black sacks to each household
  • Fortnightly collection of household recycling materials using a wheeled bin. Where wheeled bins are not appropriate, clear plastic sacks are provided.  For more information on our wheeled bin exemption policy see the document in the resources box below
  • Collections from the boundary of your property nearest the public highway
  • Assisted collections can be arranged for elderly or disabled residents. If you wish to arrange this service please call (01432) 260051 or email recycling@herefordshire.gov.uk

What day is my collection?

Recycling collection

This will be collected once a fortnight on the same day as your refuse.

Refuse collection

This will be collected on a weekly basis.

Please remember - refuse is collected weekly, recycling fortnightly

Search for your recycling and waste collection day >>

During any periods of adverse weather such as snow or flooding please see 'Latest news' on the council home page for the most recent information on collections.

What time is my collection?

Please place your refuse and recycling out by 06.30am.
Please note that in some areas your refuse may be collected at a different time of day to your recycling.

Where will my collection be from?

Collections of recycling and refuse will take place from the boundary of your property nearest the public highway as shown in the diagrams.

Please do not place refuse or recycling on public footpaths or highways as this can cause obstructions.

If you currently take your recycling/refuse to the end of your private lane or drive, please continue to do so.

Recycling wheeled bins will be returned to the point of collection.

What can I recycle?

For a full list of items that can be recycled, visit the what can I recycle page or download the recycling collection guide in the resources box below.

What if my collection is missed?

If the crew has placed an information label/sticker on your refuse/recycling please follow the advice. However, if your refuse/recycling was out by 06.30am on the day of collection and in the correct place but has still been missed then please call (01432) 260051 to report it.

During any periods of adverse weather such as snow or flooding see 'Latest News' on the council home page for the most recent information on collections.
