Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

What sort of air pollution do we get in Herefordshire?

Answer:

The main source of air pollution within Herefordshire comes from the burning of petrol and diesel in our road vehicles although to a lesser extent, industry, commerce, agriculture and housing add to this.

The main pollutant in Herefordshire is nitrogen dioxide, which is a product of combustion from engines. Other pollutants associated with vehicles will also be elevated near traffic - these are particulates, carbon monoxide, benzine and 1,3 Butadiene.

For further information see the Air quality section.
