Hereford benefits from having hourly data from the Edgar Street
Monitoring Station that has operated since 1995. This has been
invaluable for long term trend.
Herefordshire Council has worked closely with the relevant agencies in drafting an action plan to help improve the air quality along the A49 corridor in Hereford. A number of cross-departmental/agency 'Herefordshire Air Quality Steering Groups' have been held and the traffic related options discussed and screened.
A draft action plan was formulated which included a number of significant city centre transport improvements, which have been incorporated in the new Local Transport Plan (LTP2 2006/7 to 2010/11) for Herefordshire Council.
This report was finalised and approved by the government in January 2008 and has now been released to both the public and stakeholders.
The Hereford City Air Quality Action Plan report proposes 15 actions, many of which have already been implemented. The levels of pollution and therefore the impact of this action plan will be constantly reviewed via the annual progress reporting initiative.
