Air quality

For the last 8 years, Herefordshire Council has been operating an air quality monitoring programme which was set up in response to increasing public awareness of air pollution problems, particularly in relation to the situation in Hereford City.
It has been widely speculated that the situation will only get worse as the population and vehicle ownership increases, despite government predictions that vehicle technology will cut transport pollution levels.
Overall, the air quality monitoring programme has been designed to provide a clearer picture of air quality in Herefordshire, allow for assessment of local air quality regarding compliance with relevant air quality standards and allow for meaningful discussion of the need for further long term monitoring throughout the District.
