Air pollution

Air Monitoring

Herefordshire Council has undertaken a review and assessment of the County's air quality as part of the Government's National Air Quality Strategy.

For information go to Air Quality Review and Assessment using the left hand side menu.

Authorised Processes

Certain industrial processes need to be approved in order to keep a check on the air pollution and odours created by certain industries. There are also requirements to protect against noise pollution. The Herefordshire Council currently regulates about 90 authorised processes.

For more information go to Authorised Processes and Installations using the left hand side menu.

Bonfires And Burning

Having a bonfire in the garden can cause disturbance to neighbours from the smoke, smell and smuts. The Service can investigate complaints regarding bonfires. It is an offence to cause dark or black smoke from any trade or industrial premises (unless previously authorised by the authority). Should you see this happening then the authority can investigate. It is also illegal to stubble burn, apart from certain types of crop stubble.
