Renewable Energy Technologies

Most energy we buy comes from burning of fossil fuels and nuclear power stations. These processes are harmful to the environment as they release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which contribute to climate change.

Energy can be harnessed from renewable sources such as hydropower, wind power, solar energy, geothermal and biomass.

Many energy suppliers now offer a ‘green tariff’. Many green tariffs provide electricity sourced from renewable resources. To find out more contact your energy supplier directly or use a search engine to find other suppliers of green electricity or visit http://www.greenelectricity.org/.

Check carefully what exactly your supplier’s green tariff means. Some provide the power directly from a renewable resource; others involve carbon offsetting or investing in renewables. Some even include planting of trees in addition to help reduce the impact of carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels.
